Sire: Kitten's Joy
Dam: Reachinforthestars, by Grand Slam
Breeder: Ken & Sarah Ramsey (Ky.)
A winner of a stakes race in his second start, Admiral Kitten ran into tough luck in his next five starts. After finishing 11th in his next start, Admiral Kitten had four tough second places, with all of his losses coming by 1 3/4 lengths or less. But the colt was finally able to put it together when it counted, in his first Grade 1 race.
Admiral Kitten won the Secretariat Stakes by 1 1/4 lengths under jockey Rose Napravnik, breaking his dry spell impressively and putting his hat in the ring for a possible run at the Breeders' Cup Turf.
“After four second-place finishes, we were due for a good trip one of these times,” trainer Mike Maker said. “He had lost ground to the winners in those races, and Rosie saved ground on both turns here, and he came with his run.”
Bred, owned, and raced by Ken and Sarah Ramsey, Admiral Kitten is out of the winning mare Reachinforthestars. His second dam is a half sister to graded stakes winner Funistrada and Ministrada, the dam of Rahystrada. Admiral Kitten also comes from the family of champion and leading sire Cozzene, the sire of Breeders' Cup Classic winner Alphabet Soup.
