In his fourth career start, the Giant's Causeway colt was doubly successful, breaking his maiden while winning a graded stake, the Grade 3 Sam F. Davis on February 4 at Tampa Bay Downs. Battled Hardened came from a little off the pace to get the lead in the stretch and held off Prospective to win the $200,000 race by 1¼ lengths. Battle Hardened didn't finish as well in the Grade 2 Tampa Bay Derby on March 10 and ended up sixth, some eight lengths behind Prospective. The chestnut colt was purchased for $170,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky 2010 Select Yearling Sale. Battle Hardened finished fourth in his debut on October 30 and was the runner-up in two more maiden special weight races before running in the Sam F. Davis.
