After something of a slow start to his career with no stakes victories through nine races, Data Link has come to the fore in 2012, his third season of racing, with two graded stakes wins on turf – one at Keeneland and the other at Monmouth Park – to put himself in the mix for action in November in the Breeders’ Cup World Championships at Santa Anita Park. In the Monmouth Stakes (G2) win, he ran the 1 1/8 miles in 1:45.93, just off the course record of 1:45.75.
The bay son of War Front – at mid-year – had six victories from 12 lifetime starts and had run his purse earnings to $451,335, making by far the leading earner for his dam, the minor stakes-winning Known Fact mare Database, who, like her son, was bred and raced by Stuart Janney III.
