At an age when most top racehorses are beginning new careers in the breeding shed, Hymn Book is having his best year of racing. Now 6, Hymn Book kicked off 2012 by earning the first Grade 1 victory of his career in the Donn Handicap at Gulfstream Park and has since held his own with the best of his division.
The Arch gelding out of the Known Fact mare Vespers is one of two horses that trainer Shug McGaughey has developed into Grade 1 winners this year for long-time client, owner-breeder Stuart Janney, and both are products of his breeding program. Vespers and her full sister Database both were stakes winners for Janney who have gone on to produce Grade 1 winners. Database produced the 2012 Maker’s Mark Mile Stakes (G1) winner Data Link. Hymn Book continues to target the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1), while Data Link has the Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) on his radar.
