Horses
Bred: Phipps Stable (Ky.)
Sire: Dynaformer
Dam: Matlacha Pass, by Seeking the Gold
Phipps Stable’s homebred Point of Entry came into his own in 2012, with maturity and added distance being the keys to his improvement. Earlier this year he set a 1 ½-mile course record at Keeneland Race Course, completing the distance in 2:27.57 in an allowance race, then won again at the distance in the Elkhorn Stakes (G2). He returned to the winner’s circle this summer with a pair of breakthrough Grade 1 victories, capturing the Man o’ War Stakes (G1) at Belmont Park and the Sword Dancer Stakes (G1) at Saratoga Race Course. Point of Entry cemented his credentials as one of the best turf horses in the U.S. with a victory in the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Stakes (G1) in September and followed with a second-place finish in the Breeders' Cup Turf (G1).
Sired by Dynaformer, he is large physically and needed time to develop. His mother is the Seeking the Gold mare Matlacha Pass, a full sister (same sire and mother) to Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) winner Pleasant Home and multiple graded stakes winner Country Hideaway. Point of Entry is a half brother to the ill-fated Grade 1 winner Pine Island.
