Sold for $210,000 at the 2011 Keeneland September Yearling Sale, Sky Captain was purchased by trainer Mark Casse for owner John Oxley, Sky Captain is a chestnut son of Sky Mesa. Sky Captain broke his maiden in his second start at Churchill Downs in 2012. Sky Captain made his move up to stakes company in the 2013 Fasig-Tipton Fountain of Youth Stakes (G2).
