In the fourth start of his career, The Lumber Guy captured the $200,000 Jerome Stakes (G2) in front-running fashion for owner Barry Schwartz and trainer Mike Hushion. After showing speed and fading in the 1 1/8-mile Wood Memorial Stakes (G1) on April 7, The Lumber Guy seemed to find the shorter one-mile Jerome more to his liking.
The Lumber Guy showed his versatility with a convincing victory in the six-furlong Vosburgh Stakes (G1) in September 2012 that earned him an automatic starting spot in the Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1).
