Unbridled's Note won his only start at two in 2011 before he was tested in graded stakes competition to begin his 3-year-old season to see if he was a candidate for the 2012 Triple Crown races. After a pair of unplaced finishes at Oaklawn Park, Unbridled's Note cut back in distance and won a sprint race at Churchill Downs before placing in both the Amsterdam Stakes (G3) and King's Bishop Stakes (G1).
It was a switch to turf, however, the led to a breakout performance as Unbridled's Note drove to a convincing win in the Eddie D Stakes (G3) on the downhill turf course at Santa Anita Park on September 28. That victory cemented Unbridled's Note credentials as a contender for the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint (G1), held at the course and distance of the Eddie D, for trainer Steve Assmusen.
