Horses
Bred: Emory A. Hamilton (Ky.)
Sire: More Than Ready
Dam: Enchanted Rock, by Giant's Causeway
Verrazano won his first two races by 7 3/4 lengths and 16 1/4 lengths respectively. The colt, owned by Let's Go Stable, was bet down to the favorite individual horse in the first Kentucky Derby future pool due to his impressive wins. Verrazano lived up to his hype in his stakes debut, winning the Tampa Bay Derby (G2) by three lengths before shipping to New York to win the Wood Memorial (G1) to stay undefeated. Verrazano is tied for the top spot going into the Kentucky Derby and is the likely Derby favorite.
Verrazano is a by a successful and versatile sire in More Than Ready, who was one of four horses that made up Todd Pletcher’s first Kentucky Derby contingent in 2000. More Than Ready finished fourth in the 2000 Kentucky Derby, one spot behind the Pletcher-trained Impeachment.
Verrazano is also a half-brother to 2012 Risen Star Stakes (G2) winner El Padrino. Verrazano’s second dam is 1987 Ashland Stakes (G1) winner Chic Shirine, a full sister to champion Queena.
