D. Wayne Lukas-trained Will Take Charge was the winner of the Smarty Jones Stake in his 2013 debut. As a 2-year-old, he won his maiden by a length and was second in the Remington Springboard Mile Stakes. Will Take Charge earned himself a spot in the Kentucky Derby starting gate where he finished eighth when he beat stablemate Oxbow by a head in the Rebel Stakes (G2), and proceeded finish seventh in the Preakness Stakes before moving on to the Belmont Stakes.
Will Take Charge is out of multiple Grade 1 winner Take Charge Lady and is a half brother to Grade 1 winner Take Charge Indy.
