Voices From The Grandstand
Defending training champ Peter Miller after winning the opening race of the Del Mar meet, in The San Diego Union-Tribune:
Owner and breeder Mandy Pope, at the Fasig-Tipton July Yearling Sales, on two of her champion mares, Havre de Grace and Plum Pretty, to Thoroughbred Daily News:
They are perfect – they love each other. They are in a field together and are very spoiled. They are used to people coming by with carrots.
Trainer Bill Mott on champion Royal Delta, who will make her next start in the Delaware Handicap this Saturday:
We could not ask for her to be doing any better. I would love to see her run in the Delaware Handicap the way she ran in the Fleur de Lis last year. When she runs a good one, she is awesome. She never really runs poorly and I think it gets to the point where we expect her to win, so when she does not, but still runs well, we get a little dumbfounded.
Trainer Tom Proctor on winning Betfair Hollywood Park’s closing feature, Sunday’s Grade III Sunset Handicap, with Marketing Mix, in Thoroughbred Daily News:
It’s nice to win the last Sunset. A lot of good horses have won it. It means something to me.
Anna Seitz, managing partner of It’s All About the Girls, a Thoroughbred ownership group exclusively for women, from KyForward.com:
There is no greater rush than owning a horse, or a small piece of one, and cheering for your horse in the stretch run.
John G. Dooley, Arlington Park and Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots track announcer, on the unique skill of racecalling, to ESPN.com:
It's a little different than talking about someone slowly lining up a putt at The Masters.
