I got up extra early this morning to get to Keeneland in time for morning works. It was pretty cold (and I’m a huge wimp, so I was wearing not one but two quilted jackets. I looked like the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man. Fashion!) but there’s something otherworldly about standing in the dawn light watching the horses work with jets of steam coming from their nostrils as they go through their routines.
I’m excited to share these photos with you, but they really don’t even begin to capture the peaceful serenity of the track in the morning. I’m not going to caption them, since they’re pretty self-explanatory, so I’ll just leave you with a thought: if you live anywhere near a racetrack, I really encourage you to take a visit in the morning. It’s good for the soul.
