You may be bundled up in coats and out shoveling your sidewalk, but spring is just around the corner! Here are the top five trends to watch for at racetracks this spring:
Silhouettes of the 1960s
If you’ve watched Mad Men during any of the past five seasons, you know the 1960s were a killer time for fashion. This spring, the silhouettes of the ’60s will be back with fervor.
Louis Vuitton nailed the mod look at New York Fashion Week (NYFW) with perfectly tailored pieces, subtle details and the occasional splash of color.
I don’t think there’s a more perfect look for the racetrack than a 1950s or ’60s-inspired outfit, so I’m thrilled to see this trend taking shape.

Seeing Stripes
There are few things in life that will make you feel as tailored and classic as a crisp stripe. Spring fashion will bring several variations of stripes to racetracks. Whether channeling Michael Kors’ stripes-on-stripes, Marc Jacobs’ bright stripes, or Oscar de la Renta’s fussy-turned-preppy looks, you’ll look both fresh and sophisticated while cheering your favorite horse to the winner’s circle.

Sheer Things
When it comes to fashion at the racetrack, I prefer classic, subtly sexy pieces. That’s why sheer details will be getting my approval stamp this spring.
The use of chiffon on the runway has been a refreshing update to structured ensembles. Adding a bit of risk and romance to your look will help you stand out from the sea of beautiful women on race day.
B & W
Is there a color palette more classic than black and white? While typical spring colors like poppy red, nectarine, Monaco blue and grayed jade were among the most popular on the NYFW spring runways, black and white seemed to take center stage.
What’s best about this trend is that it can be easily tailored to your style: wear bold, black stripes on a white dress, find a black and white pattern you adore, or pair a little black dress with a white overcoat. The possibilities are endless!

Feminine and Fierce Floral
If stripes and a black-and-white color palette are too low-key for you, take advantage of the floral wallpaper print trend and run with it. Ornate florals hit the fashion world with a bang and should be splashed throughout your closet come spring. While the majority of the spring florals tend to be soft and feminine, bold prints with a neon palette are also popular and will make you feel less frilly in your racetrack attire. If you’re feeling particularly risky, pair two floral prints for a daring look.
Which of these trends will you embrace at the track this spring?
