Animal Kingdom made history in 2011 when he charged from off the pace to win the Kentucky Derby (G1) by 2 3/4 lengths in his first start on a dirt track. The Leroidesanimaux (Brz) colt followed with a game runner-up finish in the Preakness Stakes (G1) before an injury in the Belmont Stakes (G1) forced him to miss the rest of his three-year-old season. Animal Kingdom, who won the Spiral Stakes (G3) in his final prep for the Kentucky Derby, was named champion three-year-old male in 2011.

Trained by Graham Motion for owner Team Valor International, Animal Kingdom won his four-year-old debut before another injury forced him to the sidelines.

A homebred of Team Valor, Animal Kingdom is back in serious training and targeting the Breeders' Cup Mile (G1) for his return to the races.
