Goldencents is a son of 2007 CashCall Futurity (G1) winner Into Mischief and is trained by Kentucky Derby (G1)-winning trainer Doug O’Neill. Goldencents was purchased for $62,000 at the 2012 Ocala Breeders' Sales Co. 2-year-olds and horses of racing age sale.
After a runaway win in his career debut in September 2012 at Del Mar, Goldencents finished second to eventual Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1) winner Shanghai Bobby in the Champagne Stakes (G1) at Belmont Park. He followed with a front-running victory in the $1 million Delta Downs Jackpot Stakes (G3). Goldencents' 2013 wins included his season debut in the Sham Stakes (G3) and a win in the Santa Anita Derby (G1) to secure himself a spot in the Kentucky Derby.
