all in Triple Crown

Much like getting an opportunity to ride in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve, landing an assignment as a jockey in the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course is one of the ultimate goals for riders around the country.

Much more often than not, horses fail to live up to the regal names bestowed upon them. Maiden claiming races are filled with horses that have a "King" or "Queen" in their name. But if a horse ever justified its moniker, few did it as magnificently as Majestic Prince.

Given a name that exuded class, Majestic Prince was indeed equine royalty during a short but spectacular 10-race career that saw him come heart-breakingly close to a Triple Crown sweep in 1969.

The Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course is an annual highlight on the North American racing calendar.

The second leg of the Triple Crown, the $2 million, Grade 1 Preakness Stakes at Pimlico, is coming up this Saturday. The 149th renewal of the 1 3/16-mile race is expected to draw a strong field, and identifying the most likely winner won’t be easy.

Baltimore will be the center of the racing world this Saturday, May 18, when Pimlico plays host to the second jewel of the Triple Crown, the $2 million Preakness Stakes. Here’s what you need to know before you go.
